How do I report an unsafe workplace?

Depends on who you are, a worker in the workplace or a good samaritan in a public space.

Workers

If you’re a worker and have a safety concern on the job, immediately report it to your supervisor or your employer.

As a worker, you have the legal right to refuse work you believe presents an undue danger. You also have an obligation to refuse such work.

When you are placed in such a position, you must immediately report it to your supervisor or employer. They must investigate.

If the problem is not resolved, you may refuse to do the hazardous work. Inform your supervisor or employer why you are doing so. They must immediately contact Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

If they don’t, or they seem indifferent to your complaint, you may call OHS yourself. They can be reached 24 hours a day at the following numbers.

Phone: (867) 667-5450
Toll-free across Canada: (800) 661-0443

Good Samaritans

If you see something dangerous happening on a worksite, call Occupational Health and Safety. They can be reached 24 hours a day at the following numbers.

Phone: (867) 667-5450
Toll-free across Canada: (800) 661-0443

When you report a dangerous workplace, you will be required to give your name and contact information for follow-up. Our safety officers do not respond to anonymous complaints.
