What determines my assessment rate?

Our assessment branch will assign an industry code to you based on your business.

This will group you among peers with similar operations, hazards or accident experiences.

Making an effort to operate safely will save you money.

That’s because every year the Board of Directors evaluates the performance of each industry group and revisits the rates.

If the cost of compensating injured workers rises in an industry group, the Board may raise its assessment rate. If the costs remain constant or fall, the rates may follow suit.

Grouping businesses together spreads out the risk. It protects individual businesses from injuries and incidents that would drive up costs dramatically.

Your assessment is based on your estimated payroll for the year.
The minimum assessment any employer will be charged is $150.
