Why are rates so high?

Workers’ compensation is an insurance program.

The cost of your assessments directly reflects the cost of compensating workers in your industry category for injuries sustained in Yukon workplaces.

The best way to control the cost of your assessments is to promote workplace safety in your shop and throughout your industry.

Employers established the workers’ compensation fund to cover the cost of employees injured on the job. In return for this coverage, employees surrendered their ability to sue employers for poor workplace safety practices.

Business and worker representatives work in partnership to manage the fund and decide the appropriate assessment rates and policies.
